Every year on July 16, the global public relations community comes together to celebrate World PR Day — a day dedicated to recognising the strategic value of PR professionals and the vital role they play in building trust, navigating complexity, and shaping public narratives across the world.
What began in 2021 as a movement of 3,500 practitioners across 15 countries has grown into a global celebration of over 20,000 professionals across 66 countries and six continents. From agencies to associations, educational institutions to newsrooms, the PR community has expanded year on year — a testament to the growing recognition of communications as a strategic, indispensable function in business and society.
This year's theme, The Golden Age of Strategic PR, speaks to where our industry finds itself today: no longer confined to press releases and media lists, but at the centre of crisis navigation, reputation management, and the stories that shape public trust.
For MICHiko PR, this World PR Day carries extra significance — it marks 14 years since our journey in this industry began. Over the years, we've had the privilege of shaping and sharing stories that matter, working across Zimbabwe and South Africa, and contributing to a profession that so often does its most important work behind the scenes.
As we celebrate alongside our peers around the world, we're reminded that great PR is never done in isolation. It's built on relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to communicating with integrity. On this World PR Day, we celebrate not just how far our industry has come, but the professionals — past, present, and future — who continue to shape it.
Happy World PR Day to PR practitioners everywhere.
